fide for language learners  |  ProofsRecognised language certificates

Attention please: starting from January 1, 2025, it will no longer be possible to convert recognized language certificates into the language passport fide. However, recognized language certificates can be directly submitted to the competent cantonal or municipal authorities.

The State Secretariat for Migration (SEM) maintains a list of recognised language certificates. All language certificates on this list are valid for the residence permit (B), the settlement permit (C) and naturalisation.

If your language certificate is on this list:

  • you do not need a language passport for the residence permit, settlement permit or naturalisation.
  • you can have a language passport issued for CHF 20.–.

If your language certificate is not on the list, there are several possibilities:

  • Your certificate indicates level A1 or A2: We recommend registering for the fide test.
  • Your certificate states level B1, B2, C1 or C2: We recommend the procedure via the fide dossier (= language pass B1) or an application for another recognised language test for higher levels.
